Buttevant/Churchtown area
Churchtown and Buttevant share a strong equine tradition with its rich fertile limestone land. Buttevant was the site for the first recorded steeplechase in 1752 between the steeples of Buttevant and Doneraile churches and is also the home of the famed Chairmee Horse Fair which takes place annually on 12th July. Churchtown was the birth place of the internationally renowned horse trainer Mr.Vincent O’Brien and that tradition remains to this day with a number of successful trainers operating in the locality.
